As an exclusively volunteer team, we work to ensure the successful implementation of the Academy. Participation fees make possible the catering, and rental of accommodations, camp grounds, and event spaces, as well as fair compensation for lecturers and the kitchen team. We are also supported with in-kind donations and receive funding from the Kulturstiftung des Freistaates Sachsen, the Töpfer Foundation, Kreatives Sachsen and the simul+ Mitmachfonds.

During the second edition of SOMMER.FILM.AKADEMIE (SFA22), we brought together about 45 filmmakers from different backgrounds for two weeks in Kühlhaus Görlitz. There we developed ideas for material together, which we also realized during the shooting week together.
The German-Polish twin city of Görlitz/Zgorzelec – also known in the film industry as „Görliwood“ and as a backdrop for film productions with international flair – and the expansive and inspiring grounds of the Kühlhaus, provide us with the optimal conditions to pursue exciting stories of the Neisse Euroregion and the settlement area of the Sorbians.

As a socio-cultural creative location between Lake Berzdorf and the urban area of Görlitz/Zgorzelec, Kühlhaus suits our plans perfectly.
Over the past decade, the former GDR supply depot has been developed by ambitious cultural workers from the region into a unique event and cultural venue.
In addition to various studio and seminar rooms and a large „machine hall“, there is a spacious campsite with a large meadow, as well as bungalows and studio houses. But, above all, there is plenty of space for deep and exciting encounters.
The Consolato Generale della Serenissima Repubblica di San Marco is a unique institution in the world.
The Consulate General started its regular business activities in the Federal Republic of Germany in 2012. Its business premises are located in a palazzo in Görlitz.

Thanks to Brotschmiede we can taste the region through freshly ground flour and sourdough bread from the traditional wood oven! Raising sourdough is like raising strong communities – it might look like more effort but in the end its not… Thank you for supporting us and also the local circular economy. If you are interested to watch the whole bread baking process with a beautiful show bakery in the old town of Görlitz.
The community supported agriculture farm is not only providing us generously with crop surplus but also offered their farm as a scenic location for a film shooting in 2021. Thank you so much, we are happy to have you on board!
Apart from that we go to the food market in Zgorzelec, where we have our favorite grandma selling her veggies to us. What is still missing needs to be bought at the supermarket.

Our chefs are a great inspiration and do things a little different:
Zittau vegan: all vegan grocery store and catering. Yoko not only brings great recipes and left overs from his shop in Zittau but also a decent amount of professionalism and calmness.
Jan Bulang from Metasolis e.V. – (saves groceries and hungry souls with the best selfmade fries)
This year we also want to integrate the participants in the cooking process because we think that the food is not only feeding the physical body but also the group body.

At the end of the first edition of the SFA there were seven completed projects or teasers for follow-up projects. The works celebrated their premieres directly after the academy on 24.07.2021 in the supporting program of the „Grand Budapest Hotel“ filmed in Görlitz. The „Flying Summer Cinema“ in cooperation with the Camillo Kino from Görlitz premiered in front of about 150 guests.
The music video of the Sorbian hip-hop collective „Kolektiw Klanki“ for the track „MRÓČELE“ was also officially premiered at the beginning of November as part of the 31st Cottbus Film Festival.
Together with our cooperation partners such as the Kühlhaus Görlitz, Kreatives Sachsen, the German-Sorbian film network Łužycafilm but also the Görlitzer Brotschmiede and the community Lindenhof, the team together with our guests and Lezent:innen managed to create a relaxed togetherness.
Whether full professionals with decades of experience in film and television, such as the former DEFA cameraman and visiting professor in Babelsberg, Andreas Köfer, or up-and-coming lecturers such as film sound engineer Simon Peter and Eliana Sola Busas, who presented the attendees with an exciting introduction to a VJ software – they all ensured a successful mix of expertise and vision for the future.
