From a film that has a few seconds to a development of the first feature film.
A case study, accompanied by parts or whole films by a student of the master’s program of the Documentary Department at Prague Film School – FAMU. What does a beginning filmmaker at FAMU have to deal with? What topic to choose? What is it like to make a feature debut in Czech Republic?

BIO

Zora Čápová was born in 1993 in Sušice, Czech Republic. She began her studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences of Charles University, majoring in sociology and social policy. Later she switched to the Department of Documentary Film at FAMU, where she is now completing her Master's degree.

The films that she has made during her studies explore topics from an unusual perspective. A good example is her film Plungers focused on a website where men can rate their experiences for paid sex. Plungers screened at the Jihlava IDFF, Doclisboa Festival, Visegrad Film Forum, and won an award at the Young Camera Uničov. Her film portrait My Voina, which deals with the stay of Russian artist Oleg Vorotnikov in the Czech Republic, was presented at the Ji.hlava IDFF, the Astra Film Festival in Romania, and received an honorable mention from the jury at the Kinoproba festival in Yekaterinburg. Her latest film, Fluid Life, won the Best Documentary Award at Famufest.

Vivien geboren in Leipzig, schreibt und inszeniert sowohl Spielfilme als auch Dokumentarfilme. Nach ihrem bilingualen deutsch-französischen Abitur studiert sie zunächst Kulturwissenschaften an der Europa-Universität Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) und an der Universidad de Buenos Aires.
In Argentinien entdeckt sie ihre Liebe zum Film und geht an die Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg um Regie mit dem Schwerpunkt Dokumentarfilm zu studieren. 2014 verbringt sie ein Auslandssemester an der Fémis in Paris und studiert dort Szenischer Film und Drehbuch. Dafür erhält sie ein Stipendium der Baden-Württemberg Stiftung.

Sie hat in Ecuador, Argentinien, Chile, Indien, Frankreich und Laos gelebt. Ihre Filme laufen auf unterschiedlichen nationalen sowie internationalen Festivals. 2018 ist sie Stipendiatin des Deutschlandstipendiums.

Nach ihrem Diplomfilm ELLI an der Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, arbeitet sie derzeit an ihrem Spielfilm-Debut und schreibt sowie realisiert True Crime Serien für FUNK/ZDF.

Florian wurde 1984 in Lörrach geboren und studierte nach dem Abitur zunächst an der Universität Hildesheim „Szenische Künste“, anschließend an der Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, wo er 2015 als Dipl. Spielfilm-Regisseur abschloss.
2013 nahm er als Stipendiat am Hollywood-Workshop an der UCLA in Los Angeles teil und erhielt Einblick in die Welt der US Filmstudios und nahm 2019 an der „Akademie für Kindermedien“ teil.

Neben seiner Tätigkeit als Filmemacher war Schnell mehrfach Jurymitglied bei Festivals, wie beim „Goldenen Spatz“, „LUCAS Filmfestival“ oder „Junior Filmfestival“ - und gibt Filmworkshops
u.a. für Landesmedienzentren, an Filmhochschulen oder FSJ-Kultur-Seminare.

Sein erster Spielfilm OFFLINE, eine 90 min Jugend-Komödie, startete nach einer erfolgreichen Festivaltour im Februar 2017 in den deutschen Kinos und ist weltweit auf Netflix zu sehen.
Er inszeniert für bekannte TV-Formate und seine Folge „Weil ich ein Mädchen bin“ der Pfefferkörner wurde er für den Emmy-Kids-Award 2019 nominiert.

Den ersten Corona-Lockdown nutzte er unter anderem, um zusammen mit Britta Schoening die experimentelle Web-Serie QUARANTIME zu drehen und neue Stoffe zu entwickeln.

Mehr als 950 Jahre Geschichte haben das Angesicht der Stadt Görlitz geprägt. Mit ihrer Schönheit beeindruckt sie längst nicht nur Touristen, sondern zieht auch Filmschaffende aus Deutschland, Europa und der ganzen Welt in ihren Bann. Schon in den 1950er Jahren war die Stadt ein gefragter Drehort, in dem die DEFA oft zu Gast war und unter anderem die Filmkomödie „Der Ochse von Kulm“ (1955) produzierte. Mehr als 100 Filme sind inzwischen entstanden, einige davon sind sogar Oscar®-prämiert. Nicht von ungefähr wurde Görlitz 2017 zur European Film Location Award of the Decade gekürt. Das „Who is Who“ der nationalen und internationalen Filmstars hat bereits in Görliwood® gearbeitet.

More than 950 years of history have shaped the face of the city of Görlitz. With its beauty, it has long impressed not only tourists, but also captivated film-makers from Germany, Europe and all over the world. As early as the 1950s, the city was a sought-after film location, where DEFA was a frequent guest and produced, among others, the film comedy "Der Ochse von Kulm" (1955). More than 100 films have been made in the meantime, some of them even Oscar®-winning. It is no coincidence that Görlitz was named European Film Location Award of the Decade in 2017. The "Who's Who" of national and international film stars has already worked in Görliwood®.

In diesem Vortrag erhalten die Teilnehmer:innen von der Kulturanthropolgin, Filmemacherin und Musikerin Sophia Ziesch verschiedene Einblicke in den sorbischen Film.
Anhand guter und eher weniger guter Beispiele zeigt die Dozentin, welche Themen derzeit relevant sind in der sorbischen Kultur und wie diese audiovisuell verarbeitet werden und wie exotisierend ein Blick von Außen auf eine ethnische Minderheit sein kann.

Using good and rather less good examples, the lecturer will show which topics are currently relevant in Sorbian culture and how these are processed audiovisually and how exotic a view from outside on an ethnic minority can be.

Nach einer moderierten Podiumsdiskussion auf der Bühne der Maschinenhalle und einer offenen Fragerunde samt musikalischer Untermalung gibt es im Anschluss noch Gelegenheiten bei einem Getränk gemeinsame Ideen und Pläne zu vertiefen.

Case Study – Documentary movie in Ukraine now
in cooperation with Ukrainian Film School

– Presentation of short documentary movie – Dobrobat

On February 24, russia attacked Ukraine. Many Ukrainian men and women voluntarily took up arms to defend their country.

The documentary "Dobrobat" tells about 6 such volunteer soldiers who have different destinies, desires and paths. But they all have a common goal – to stop russian invaders who kill children, rape women and shoot civilians.

The stories of the film's heroes are intertwined and form a huge mosaic of how the events of the war unfold in Ukraine in 2022.

Thousands of people like our characters. And for them it is not just russia's war against Ukraine. This is a struggle for freedom. They also understand better than anyone that Ukraine is a shield that keeps the russian totalitarian horde from conquering Europe and the world.

Bodo hat Betriebswirtschaftslehre, Volkswirtschaftslehre und kreative Filmproduktion in Deutschland, den USA studiert. Er ist seit 30 Jahren in der Medienbranche tätig und produzierte seither mehrere Langspielfilme. Bodo unterrichtet an verschiedenen Filmhochschulen und Universitäten.

Inhalt

Das Vortragsprogramm richtet sich an kreative Produzenten oder Filmschaffende, die sich mit Projektmanagement und der -entwicklung von Filmprojekten auseinandersetzen.

Das Vortragsprogramm beinhaltet alles Wissenswerte zum Businessplan eines Filmprojekts.

Das Seminar wird in Englisch oder Deutsch angeboten und mit PowerPoint-Folien und einem Handout versehen.
Einige Aspekte (z.B. staatliche Förderprogramme, Besteuerung von Filmemachern) des Programms richten sich an Filmemacher in Deutschland. Der größte Teil des Materials hat jedoch eine universelle Gültigkeit.
Format und Dauer des Vortrags hängen von den Anforderungen des Publikums und dem Thema ab.

Production in Germany and abroad. He has worked in Media Industry for 30 years and has produced several long format films. He has lectured at Film Schools and Universities.

Content

The program is targeted towards Creative Producers or Filmmakers who concern
themselves with the Project Management and -Development of Film Projects.

The Lecture Program, in its entirety, encompasses all the material needed for a Business Plan of a
Film Project.

Lectures are provided in English or German and come with PowerPoint Slides and a Handout.
Some Aspects (e.g. State Funding Programs, Taxation for Filmmakers) of the Program are targeted
towards Filmmakers in Germany. Most of the material however has a universal validity.
Format and Duration of Lecture depend on Requirements of the Audience and on the Topic.

Kateryna Gornostai studied Biology (2010) and later Journalism (2012) at the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. Then graduated from the School of Marina Razbezhkina and Mikhail Ugarov Documentary Film and Theatre in Moscow (October 2012 - November 2013) and returned home to Kyiv. Now she is engaged in educational documentary programs and her own documentary and fiction films projects.

A hybrid form of a film: between a documentary and fictional approach.
On example of the film Stop-Zemlia and other works we will examine the methods of documentary cinema that were used to make fiction film such as:

Jahrzehnte nach dieser Initialzündung, nach der Aneignung einer grundlegenden cineastischen Bildung und nach dem Abschluss eines Master-Studiums in Babelsberg an der Filmuniversität Konrad Wolf, hat Jonas sowohl lange als auch kurze Dokumentar- und Spielfilme gedreht, welche erfolgreich auf internationalen Festivals liefen.

Die Bildsprache seiner Arbeiten ist stets konsequent und formbewusst. Es gibt ebenso puristische- dokumentarisch anmutende Bilder wie hoch stilisierte Tableaus und Plansequenzen.
Dabei ist die Handlung des Filmes alleine entscheidend. Jonas Kameraarbeit ist gänzlich uneitel, in dem Sinne, als dass Schönheit an sich für ihn alleine nicht ausreicht. Vielmehr als die makellosen, glatten Bilder, die uns täglich begegnen, interessiert ihn eine vielschichtige Bildsprache, die alles sein kann, nur nicht beliebig. Seine Leidenschaft liegt in der Suche nach den richtigen Bildern, die eine vom Stoff vorgegebene Ästhetik bedienen und zudem etwas thematisieren was unter der Oberfläche liegt.

Dabei ist die Handlung des Filmes alleine entscheidend. Jonas Kameraarbeit ist gänzlich uneitel, in dem Sinne, als dass Schönheit an sich für ihn alleine nicht ausreicht. Vielmehr als die makellosen, glatten Bilder, die uns täglich begegnen, interessiert ihn eine vielschichtige Bildsprache, die alles sein kann, nur nicht beliebig. Seine Leidenschaft liegt in der Suche nach den richtigen Bildern, die eine vom Stoff vorgegebene Ästhetik bedienen und zudem etwas thematisieren was unter der Oberfläche liegt.

Grit Lemke wird als Dozentin während der SFA in zwei spannenden Workshopblöcken anhand ihres preisgekrönten Dokumentarfilms "GUNDERMANN REVIER"  über den Lausitzer Liedermacher und Baggerfahrer Gerhard Gundermann exklusive Einblicke darbieten und den Teilnehmenden nützliche Tipps geben über das Filmemachen in der Lausitz im speziellen und die Kunst des Dokumentarfilms im Ganzen. 

Zur Person

Geboren 1965 in Spremberg/Niederlausitz, aufgewachsen in Hoyerswerda.
Nach einer Baufacharbeiterlehre und Arbeit im Theater- und Kulturbereich 1987-93 Studium der Kulturwissenschaft, Ethnologie und Literatur in Leipzig, 1999 Promotion in Europäischer Ethnologie an der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.

Seit 1991 Arbeit für Filmfestivals in wechselnden Funktionen, langjährig für DOK Leipzig, bis 2017 dort Leiterin des Filmprogramms. Beim FilmFestival Cottbus Leitung der deutsch-sorbischen Sektion „Heimat | Domownja | Domizna“. Kuratierte zahlreiche Filmreihen, u.a. bei DOK Leipzig, der Akademie der Künste Berlin, goEast Festival des mittel- und osteuropäischen Films Wiesbaden und für Goethe Institute weltweit. Hatte Lehraufträge an verschiedenen Hochschulen und Instituten inne, Mentorin und Tutorin in Trainingsprogrammen. Mitarbeit als Autorin und Dramaturgin an Dokumentarfilmen und –serien. Publikationen zum Dokumentarfilm.

During the SFA, Grit Lemke will teach two exciting workshop blocks based on her award-winning documentary film "GUNDERMANN REVIER" about the Lusatian singer-songwriter and digger driver Gerhard Gundermann, and will give participants useful tips about filmmaking in Lusatia in particular and the art of documentary filmmaking as a whole.

Born and raised up in Lusatia/GDR. After an apprenticeship as a bricklayer worked in a theatre and cultural event venue. 1987-93 studies of cultural anthropology, literature and ethnology in Leipzig, 1999 PhD in European ethnology at Humboldt University Berlin.

Vanessa ist freie Editorin, Kamerafrau und VJ im Münchner Club "Blitz" und erstellt z.B Musikvideos für elektronische Musikacts wie "Qualm - A Short Film" von Helena Hauff.

Bei diesem Workshop handelt es sich um eine Vorstellung des Workflows mit dem Adobe Programm Premiere. Es soll einen strukturierten Ablauf vom Erstellen eines neuen Projektes über wichtige Einstellungen des Videomaterials, der Tools und Shortcuts, bis hin zum Export eines fertigen Videos geben mit kurzen Einblicken in die vielfältigen Möglichkeiten des Color Gradings.

Setbetreuung & Schauspiel.

Schauspielerin Sophie Bock bereitet die Schauspieler:innen auf die anstehenden Filmprojekte vor mit Hilfe von Körper- und schauspielerischen Übungen.

Sophie Bock schließt 2018 ihr Schauspielstudium an der Zürcher Hochschule der Künste ab und geht an das Staatstheater Cottbus in ihr erstes Festengagement. Parallel zur Schauspielausbildung studierte sie zeitweise am Institut für angewandte Theaterwissenschaft in Gießen. Während ihrer Ausbildung arbeitete sie bereits unter anderem mit Philipp Becker, Marcus P. Tesch, Rebekka David und Efrat Stempler sowie in diversen Kollaborationen und Performancekollektiven.

Sophie Bock ist seit der Spielzeit 18.19 festes Mitglied des Schauspielensembles am Staatstheater Cottbus.

Tag der Wissenschaft im Kühlhaus

THEMEN:

TRIP Multimedia installation, 3D sensors 2022 TRIP is a collection of five interactive installations which transform the in-gallery movement into psychedelic forms and mycelial network structures using realtime 3D scanning. TRIP 1 (Pragovka) shows these forms in virtual reality. TRIP 2 (Gumarna) and TRIP 3 (Pragovka) map the orthogonal structure projections on the floor, walls and the ceiling. TRIP 4 (Gumarna) show the movement inside and outside of an object made of a loop of four computer monitors. TRIP 52 (Pragovka) transfers the abstracted reality onto twenty five displays arranged into a nucleus of a mycelial network in the from of an imprint of a cellular automaton. The movement of the gallery visitors influences the evolution of digital systems which provide an experience of transtition between the phases of TRIP.
